ERDERA’s ethics and regulatory experts have launched a dedicated webinar series exploring two of the most cross-cutting and challenging topics in rare disease research: Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) and artificial intelligence in biomedical research.
This first webinar introduced the series and provided a foundation for understanding how ethical and regulatory considerations shape the research continuum. Future episodes will focus on the rules, guidance, and practical challenges involved in ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and ethical provisions, supporting both responsible research practices and smooth clinical translation. Over time, the series may expand to address broader ethical and regulatory questions emerging across the rare disease landscape.

About this introductory webinar
Before addressing the specific topics of ATMPs and AI, this introductory session explored the role of ethics across the research continuum and its relevance at every stage of knowledge creation and mobilisation.
Participants were introduced to a theoretical framework for understanding ethics throughout research activities, followed by a case study discussion that illustrated how ethical considerations can be identified and addressed in practice. The session established a shared reference point for the episodes that follow in the series.
Key takeaways
- A clear overview of the ethical implications that can arise across the research continuum.
- Greater familiarity with a practical framework for identifying ethical considerations at each stage of research.
- Insight into the relationship between ethical reflection, regulatory compliance, and clinical translation.
- A common foundation for engaging with future discussions on ATMPs and AI in rare disease research.
Who this webinar is for
Researchers, clinicians, regulatory affairs professionals, ethicists, and anyone involved in or supporting rare disease research who is interested in engaging responsibly with ATMPs or AI in a biomedical context.
